GONG-MAKING IN BALI | |||
Click on the thumbnails below to see photos of gong makers on the Indonesian Island of Bali. These artisans use techniques handed down from generation to generation to create the gongs and drums used in the gamelan music of southeast Asia. The brass is smelted from scrap metals (copper, bronze, etc.) poured into molds, hammered and shaped, and finally fitted into hand-carved wooden frameworks. | |||
